Is Drinking Protein Shakes Only For Men?

Many women once they begin a fitness lifestyle that’s built on weight training for women and clean eating, always ask the question of… should I be taking a protein supplement.

The fear usually comes from the bodybuilding world. Many women make the mistake thinking that taking protein will make them fatter and add too much bulky muscle onto their body. This fear will always exist, but now you are in the know and you don’t have to worry about adding too much muscle. Gaining size is a matter of calorie intact and not a supplement issue.

I know that you might be thinking… protein does have some calories. That’s true but the difference is you can use a good protein shake as one of your meals during the day.   The best time to have your shake would be right after your gym workouts when you just got through burning a lot of calories.

Either way, if you are a woman, protein is really a great supplement you need to add to your diet.   It’s recommended that you take whey protein and not too much if you end up using soy protein.   Many studies have shown that a lot of soy consumption can lead to breast cancer, so I just recommend staying with quality whey protein.   You will notice that there are tons of different types of whey but if you have any worries then ask your doctor about your specific needs.

Do your best to stay away from whey proteins that have tons of extra ingredients and things that try to make it even more effective.  Many times, these extra things add sugar to the protein and you don’t want extra sugar in your diet.

Whey protein really is great for your diet because it supports your lean muscle growth which helps you burn fat and it also helps you recover faster after your workouts.   Protein shakes are so great because you can make them taste amazing and they can help you cut out other sweets in your diet.   If you have access to the right recipes and a good imagination then you can make some great protein shakes that support your body with tons of nutrients for optimum health.
